Phone Boundaries That Leave More Room for Each Other

FORTION JOURNAL · STRESS AND RECOVERY

You are telling a story, and your partner glances at a notification. It may be a tiny moment, but repeated often it can make you feel secondary. A shared agreement works better than policing every time someone picks up a phone.

Say what you miss

Try “I'd like a little time when we can give each other our attention.” Choose a specific window, such as a meal or a short evening conversation. Discuss work, caring responsibilities and other exceptions openly.

Make the habit mutual

Put your own phone aside, too, and choose something you enjoy doing together. The point is not perfect compliance or access to each other's messages. It is creating time in which both people feel present and privacy remains respected.
