Staying Connected When Life Does Not Go to Plan
A move falls through, a job changes or a family plan takes a different direction. You may be dealing with the same event but feeling completely different things. That gap can make a difficult period feel lonelier.
Ask before trying to solve it
“Do you want me to listen, or would planning help?” can prevent a well-meant suggestion from feeling dismissive. Say how the change is affecting you, too. You do not need matching reactions to care about each other.
Keep one familiar point of contact
A shared meal or short walk can give you a place to meet outside the problem. Let intimacy be flexible rather than another expectation. If the strain keeps growing, seek support before every conversation becomes about what went wrong.
