Urologist or Sex Therapist? Finding the Right Support

FORTION JOURNAL · CLINICAL APPOINTMENTS

You know you would like help, but the choice of professionals can feel like another problem to solve. Should you see someone about your body, your worries or your relationship? Those concerns can overlap, so you do not have to choose a single explanation before asking.

Start with what is happening

A primary-care doctor can review physical symptoms, medicines and general health, then discuss referrals. A urologist focuses on urinary and male reproductive health. A therapist trained in sexual concerns can help with anxiety, communication and patterns around intimacy.

Ask how the pieces fit together

Tell the professional what you hope will change: less worry, more comfort or help with erections, for example. Ask why a referral is suggested and whether different kinds of support could work alongside each other. It is reasonable to want to understand the plan.
