Feeling Close While Recovering From Illness

FORTION JOURNAL · LIFE TRANSITIONS

You may be missing affection while also feeling tired, sore or unfamiliar with your body. A partner may be unsure what is comfortable and say nothing. Recovery can leave both people waiting for the other to bring it up.

Say what feels possible today

A hand held, a conversation or a short cuddle may feel welcome even when sex does not. Tell your partner where you need care or space. Your energy may change from day to day, so yesterday's answer does not have to be today's.

Ask about returning to sexual activity

Get advice from your treating team about any restrictions, symptoms or timing relevant to your illness. Do not use a device or restart an activity just to prove that you have recovered. Progress can include learning what is comfortable now.
