First-Date Nerves: Give Yourself a Smaller Job
You are choosing clothes and already imagining every awkward silence. A first date can feel like an audition when you are trying to prove you are interesting, attractive and confident all at once. You only need to find out whether you enjoy meeting this person.
Plan for comfort
Choose an easy setting and allow yourself enough time to arrive without rushing. Have a couple of genuine questions in mind, rather than rehearsing a perfect version of yourself. A pause in conversation is not evidence that the evening has gone wrong.
Keep the outcome open
You do not need to decide about a relationship or physical intimacy that night. Notice whether you feel listened to and at ease. If you are not interested, you can be kind and clear afterwards without treating the date as a personal failure.
