Intimacy After Having Children: Finding Each Other Again

FORTION JOURNAL · LIFE TRANSITIONS

You finally sit down together, then someone wakes up. Between childcare, work and interrupted sleep, it can be hard to recognise the couple you were before. Missing intimacy does not mean either of you is doing parenthood badly.

Talk about the whole day

Ask what is leaving each of you drained. Sharing the load may matter more than planning a romantic surprise. Make room for recovery, changing bodies and different levels of desire, especially after pregnancy and birth.

Start with welcome closeness

A quiet drink together or an affectionate touch may be enough for now. Do not treat sex as proof that life is back to normal. For pain, concerns after birth or ongoing changes in sexual wellbeing, ask a healthcare professional for advice suited to your circumstances.
