Ending a Dating Connection Kindly and Clearly

FORTION JOURNAL · DATING AND NEW CONNECTIONS

You have enjoyed parts of getting to know someone, but you do not want to continue. Finding the right words can feel difficult, especially when they have done nothing wrong. A clear answer is usually kinder than leaving the possibility hanging.

Keep the message honest

“I've appreciated meeting you, but I don't feel the connection I'm looking for” is enough. Avoid offering friendship or a future date unless you mean it. You do not need to produce a list of their faults to justify your decision.

Respect your own boundary

You can acknowledge disappointment without turning the decision into a debate. If you are concerned about their reaction or your safety, choose the setting and method accordingly. Kindness does not require an in-person meeting when it feels unsafe.
