Talking About What You Enjoy Without Making Assumptions

FORTION JOURNAL · COMMUNICATION SKILLS

You may have been together for years and still be guessing about each other's preferences. Something that once felt good may not suit today. A gentle question can be more useful than confidence based on an old answer.

Share one preference at a time

“I like it when we slow down” or “Would you enjoy trying this?” gives the conversation a clear starting point. Ask outside an intimate moment if that feels easier. Treat uncertainty as an answer that deserves time.

Keep agreement specific

Enjoying one activity does not mean wanting every variation or wanting it every time. Check in without turning the experience into an interview. The aim is to understand each other, with room for both enthusiasm and limits.
