Embarrassed to Ask About Sexual Health? You Can Start Small

FORTION JOURNAL · CONFIDENCE AND SELF-IMAGE

You can discuss a sore knee without thinking twice, but a sexual concern has you rehearsing sentences in the car. Feeling embarrassed does not mean the problem is too trivial or too personal to bring up.

Use the words you have

“I'm having trouble with erections” or “My sex drive has changed” is enough to begin. You can read from a note or say that you find the topic difficult. A clinician can help with the questions that follow.

Focus on why you came

Maybe you want reassurance, an explanation or treatment options. Say what would help you leave feeling clearer. If you do not feel heard, ask again or seek another professional. Sexual wellbeing is a valid part of your health.
