Alcohol and Consent: Keep the Choice Clear
You may both be enjoying an evening, but alcohol can affect how clearly someone communicates and makes decisions. Being in a relationship does not remove the need for consent. Neither does having agreed to sex on a previous occasion.
Talk while you can choose clearly
Discuss boundaries before drinking, and keep checking how each person feels. An earlier yes does not override a later no or uncertainty. If someone is too intoxicated to understand or freely choose what is happening, do not proceed.
When unsure, pause
Silence, lack of resistance or simply being present is not a clear yes. Choose safety and stop rather than trying to interpret an unclear situation in your favour. You can spend time together without making physical intimacy the expected end of the evening.
